Gnosia, stylized GNOSIA, is an animated adaptation of the game Gnosia, released on October 11th, 2025.[5] Official English and other language subtitles are released the same day through Crunchyroll, with dubs in Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese planned for a later date.[4] An English dub was announced on October 31st, 2025, and premiered the following day[6], as did the Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese dubs.
The first cour, consisting of Episode 1 through Episode 12, aired between October 11th and December 27th, 2025. The second cour - dubbed the "Truth Arc" - will begin with Episode 13 on January 10th, 2025.[1]
Premise[]
The story of GNOSIA takes place on a ship drifting through space. Gnosia is an enemy that disguises itself as a human and attacks them. It is now on the spaceship, causing everyone onboard to be suspicious of each other. The crew decides to vote on the most suspicious-looking person every day and put them into a cold sleep.
If the humans succeed in putting Gnosia to sleep, they'll win. On the other hand, if they don't, everyone on board is in danger. The right decision must be made. No matter what decision is made by the main character, Yuri, they find themself in a time loop that returns them to the first day of the crisis.
Will the crew on board make the right decision? What is the secret behind the time loop? What secrets hide behind the faces of everyone on board?
GNOSIA begins now – a story of looping, fleeting moments that feels like an eternity but passes by in an instant.
Have a pleasant journey.[7]
Differences From the Game[]
- See also: Gnosia (game), Events
The anime has made a number of changes to the source material in addition to expanding some scenes and adding new ones. More detailed lists of differences can be found on individual episode pages, but some notable overall changes include:
- Gina and Raqio's names were given their original romanizations - Jina and Racio, respectively - in Crunchyroll's official English subtitles. Gliese was also localized as "Glyze".
- Whether or not the
Gnosia have successfully been eliminated can be determined immediately after putting someone into cold sleep rather than having to wait until the next warp. - When voting, the crew members cannot see who voted for who unless they specifically ask LeVi to see the full results during their free time.
- Several events are adapted out of order and in different contexts, such as the Retaliate event and Step Forward event being adapted as early as in Episode 2 and information from the Raqio Note 6 event being revealed as early as Episode 4.
- Some loops are combined, such as events from Loop 4 being incorporated into the anime's third loop.
- Roles are introduced at different times, such as the
Engineer being introduced in the anime's fourth loop instead of the second and the
AC Follower not being introduced until the second cour. - The
Guardian Angel role can be claimed and counter-claimed in the anime, which is not the case in the game.[8] - Multiple
Gnosia can claim the same role, which cannot occur in the game unless the player does so after their ally falsely claims a role.[9]

Production[]
The initial offer to adapt Gnosia into an anime.
The first offer to adapt Gnosia into an anime was made by Aniplex on August 31st[14] of 2021 via an email sent to Petit Depotto by future anime producer Yoshitaka Kimura[15], who was a fan of the game.[16] He had encountered the game in 2021 while researching various works and was struck by the key visual of SQ on the packaging. After playing it, he had a strong desire to turn the game into an anime. He was still gaining experience as an assistant producer at the time and was looking for his first project to adapt, and his boss encouraged him to ask Petit Depotto right away.[17]
Kimura's offer was so unexpected that both Toru Kawakatsu and PLAYISM representative Shunji Mizutani thought it was a scam at first.[16] Two other anime production companies wound up making offers as well, but Kawakatsu chose Aniplex due to the excitement and passion toward Gnosia that Kimura expressed. Interested but unsure of how to adapt the game into an anime in a satisfactory fashion, he and Aniplex spent 3 years in close communication before the announcement of the anime.[18] The name of the production committee for the anime - Project DQO, named after the ship the story takes place on - was decided on by Kawakatsu and Kimura, reflecting their aims of overcoming difficulties and aiming for the stars.[19]
The other members of Petit Depotto were involved in production as well, albeit to a more limited extent. Each of them gave a lecture to the animation staff about the setting and worldview of Gnosia and provided them with a collection of setting materials to reference. Kawakatsu was entrusted with supervising the scenario and storyboards to decide what content was acceptable for the anime[20] and made a concerted effort to be present for every step of the process[16], including traveling from Nagoya to be present on set every time they recorded.[21] Cotori helped come up with Yuri's character concept and also provided back designs for the characters, as these hadn't been necessary for all characters during production of the game.[22][16][23] Cotori consulted Shigoto during the process of Arisa Matsuura adapting the character designs to animations, knowing he had a strong attachment to Gina and wanting to ensure she came off correctly.[23]
Kawakatsu has emphasized that the anime be considered its own universe, akin to how the unique results of individual playthroughs of the game are just as valid as any other.[20][16] The anime is not intended to be the definitive canon for the game nor a fully comprehensive adaptation of it, but rather Yuri's specific path through it that Kawakatsu hopes viewers will enjoy "as if they were watching someone else play".[18][22] In a blog post on Petit Depotto's website, Kawakatsu referred to it as "a new Gnosia universe".[24]. During Aniplex Online Fest 2025 Yuri's voice actor - Chika Anzai- referred to the anime as showcasing "the world of Gnosia from the world of Yuri's universe",[25] noting that this aspect of the anime is what made a script at all feasible.[26] Several comments made at the 2025 Tokyo Game Show used similar phrasing. Anzai also mentioned that the anime features a number of anime-original scenes.[27]
At the advance screening of Episode 1 it was stated that even experienced players will be surprised by the anime's plot[28], though Kimura has stated he tried to avoid changing too much from the original game and consulted Kawakatsu extensively about any changes.[16] In an interview following the airing of Episode 1, Kawakatsu mentioned that Petit Depotto felt as though they had done everything they could with Gnosia and aimed to make a "new world line" that would maximize the creativity of everyone involved in the production and create a work unlike anything else. Kimura noted that the most important aspects of Gnosia are the worldview, atmosphere, and above all else the characters; the producers were dedicated to ensuring that the characters felt the same across mediums.[17]
Kimura noted that it's unusual for producers to be listed in the main staff credits as is the case for Gnosia: he stated that doing so is to make a statement that both the game and anime producers have the conviction to work together to create something special.[17]
Kimura was connected to Werewolf supervisor Fumiya Matsuzaki through Aniplex's stage division. He assisted in teaching the staff the logic of Werewolf to help them manifest certain dramatic elements they wanted.[16] In a 2025 interview Kimura noted that Domerica specializes in CG, which may be why they were chosen to animate Gnosia. He mentioned that CG was used to assist in figuring out the "camerawork" used during scenes and that many locations - such as the Main Console - were made using 3DCG.[29]
On April 24th of 2025, the anime's official website opened a logbook section dedicated to discussing behind the scenes details about the anime's production, such as the initial offer made by Kimura. According to the entry made by Ayaka Yoshigai - the person at Aniplex in charge of advertising the anime - on May 22nd, it was designed after the in-game logbook.
The anime began undergoing dubbing - the process of adding voice acting, music, and sound effects to the animation - in June.[30] By late July, production of the anime was "reaching its climax".[19] The first episode was fully complete by September 9th.[31] The second episode was fully complete by September 27th, as Asami Seto - the voice of Gina - mentioned having already had the opportunity to watch it.[16] Voice recording for all episodes was completed some time before November 10th, 2025.[32]
The work environment was reportedly positive and marked by a passionate staff; Kawakatsu stated that it was a great environment to work in and talked about how much fun they all had together, with Anzai agreeing and noting production went so far as to give them all themed snacks during recording sessions.[16] Kawakatsu also stated that if the anime were to receive any sort of sequel, he would want to tackle it with the same crew because of how enthusiastic the production team was.[17] Saori Hayami, the voice actor of Stella also attested to the comfortable and friendly work environment on set[33], as did Shigemichi's voice actor, Tomokazu Seki[34] and Yuriko's voice actor, Aoi Yuuki.[32] Anzai said that the nature of the voice work made recording sessions intensely stimulating, but had so much fun that she called it a "pleasant suffering".[27] Takeo Otsuka stated that he received scripts for episodes he wasn't even involved in to help him keep up with the story, noting that this is highly unusual in the industry. He also said that he was given footage of the soundtrack being recorded and that Kawakatsu would occasionally bring the crew rare Gnosia merchandise.[35] Seto reported that the staff explained their rationale behind why everyone was cast and gathered them all together to watch the anime's main trailer together when it was completed.[36]
Ling tosite sigure lauded the unusual level of communication they experienced while producing Loo% Who%[29], and Arisa Matsuura also remarked on how uncommon it is to have the level of communication she got to have with Petit Depotto.[23]
Casting[]
In a September 22nd, 2025 article by Comic Natalie, several details about the casting process were revealed. Chika Anzai had initially auditioned for the roles of Setsu and SQ but was rejected. When additional auditions were held for the main role of Yuri - which was opened to both male and female voice actors[27], she was determined to get the role and succeeded. Aoi Yuuki discussed how she originally auditioned for the role of Raqio but got Yuriko instead, suggesting that her Raqio audition had had too much of a "Yuriko component" to it.[26]
Anzai and Seto discussed more casting details at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 stage show. The audition process began with a digital audition, and after that eligible applicants were invited to do a live audition at the studio. Most voice actors had already been chosen by their digital auditions, though the studio auditions were still held. Anzai was hired on the spot after her studio audition, and Seto was hired for being able to capture Gina's subtleties. Kana Hanazawa had been specifically sought out by Kimura for the role of Otome[16] and Tomokazu Seki was offered the role of Shigemichi without an audition.[34][37]
The characters from Loop 1 - Setsu, Gina, SQ, and Raqio - were the first to have auditions held for them. The producers wanted to be able to define the energy aboard the D.Q.O. before opening auditions for Yuri, whose voice actor they could then choose to fit the group that had already been established. There were about 200 applicants for each of these roles, and about 600 total for that round of auditions. Sound director Ryosuke Naya participated in judging the auditions, and STUDIO MAUSU handled subsequent scheduling for the voice actors. The voice actors received ample direction, though Seki was given a lot of freedom and encouraged to "do whatever".[16][38][27] Seki noted that he did almost no ad-libbing, so this freedom mostly manifested in the form of tone.[37] Sha-Ming's voice actor, Takuya Eguchi, also reported being given considerable freedom during recording.[21] SQ's voice actor, Akari Kito, mentioned engaging in ad-libbing and being surprised that some of her line reads were kept.[39]
Several of the cast members played the game either in preparation for their role or as a result of becoming interested in the game while recording. These include Chika Anzai (who also consulted gameplay videos and analysis sites)[17], Hiroki Nanami[40], Saori Hayami[33][41], and Ryan Negron.[42] Chipie's voice actor, Yuichi Nakamura, had played the game previously[43]; Gina's voice actor, Asami Seto, watched livestreams of the game and videos of all the events[16]; Comet's voice actor, Ayane Sakura, mentioned reading reviews of the game[26]; and Aoi Yuuki did some online research about Yuriko.[32] One of the musicians behind the anime's ending, TK, became so intrigued by Gnosia that he bought a Nintendo Switch purely to play the game.[29] Take-M and KennyDoes of Umeda Cypher both played the game, and another member - KBD - was such a huge fan of the game that he created a presentation about it for the members who would be performing FLOOR KILLER.[44]

The anime was announced on December 1st, 2024[45] and was subsequently incorporated into the PARCO Gnosia pop-up shop that was running at the time. There was initially no crossover between the pop-up shop and the anime's production, but Kawakatsu believed announcing the anime during the pop-up event would bring more people to the store and allow the anime's announcement to be amplified by the existing excitement for the IP that the pop-up was generating. After introducing the person in charge at PARCO and the producer at Aniplex to one another, they planned the integration of the anime's announcement into the pop-up shop over the course of 6 months.[18]
